Another amazing year has ended! Along with your regular New Year’s resolutions, Dr. Kevin Caldwell recommends that you have a few dental resolutions. These goals can help your smile shine in the years to come!

Replace Your Toothbrush Often
Many people only replace their toothbrush when they go to the dentist for routine checkups and receive one for free. However, it is recommended that you replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Toothbrush bristles begin to become worn and frayed with time, so a fresh toothbrush can clean your teeth more efficiently.

Brush at a Good Time
Brushing after meals is a great thing, however, we recommend that you wait for at least 30 minutes. This is especially important if you ate something acidic, like lemons or soda. You can drink water or chew sugarless gum to clean the teeth a little while you wait to brush.

Store Your Toothbrush Properly
Don’t store your toothbrush in a closed container or drawer. Your toothbrush should be stored upright in the open air so that it can dry properly and so that germs won’t grow on it as easily.

Don’t Chew Ice & Other Objects
Chewing ice and non-food items can chip or crack the teeth. If this is a habit that you have, try to break it this year.

Don’t Use Your Teeth Like Tools
The teeth should not be used to tear or cut open packages. Do not use your teeth like scissors, as this can cause unnatural wear or otherwise damage them.

Visit Our Office Regularly
Our dentist and team in Webb City, Missouri, stress the importance of coming into our office at least once every six months. In addition, it is important that you keep any scheduled appointments for treatments like dental fillings. Skipping checkups can have dire circumstances, as Dr. Kevin Caldwell will not have the chance to check your teeth and gums for signs of decay and other issues.
